Ministry imposes fine on facility polluting the Sea of Marmara
Administrative action was taken after leachate from the solid waste facility in Yalova mixed into the sea.
The Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change has fined the Yalova Province Local Administrations Solid Waste Facilities Construction and Operation Union millions of liras because leachate originating from the solid waste storage facility mixed into the Sea of Marmara.
Inspection Process
Teams from the Yalova Provincial Directorate of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change launched an investigation in the region following reports. As a result of the inspections, the source of the pollution was determined in detail.
Source of Pollution
It was determined that untreated wastewater from the Yalova Solid Waste Sanitary Landfill located in the village of Denizçalı in Çiftlikköy district reached the Sea of Marmara.
Administrative Sanction
Pollution occurred in the Special Environmental Protection Area due to untreated water reaching the sea via a stream as a result of a blockage in the existing line.
Amount of Fine
An administrative fine of 5 million 34 thousand Turkish Liras was imposed on the Yalova Province Local Administrations Solid Waste Facilities Construction and Operation Union, which caused environmental pollution in the region.
