According to data from the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey, total 12-month net direct investments fell to $2.7 billion as of January 2026, seeing their lowest level since 2004.

Historical Decline in Annual Data

According to calculations based on Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey data, annualized direct investment inflows stood at only $2.7 billion as of January 2026. In 2007, 12-month net direct investment inflows had reached a record level of $26.3 billion.

Investment Trends in Past Years

During the recovery phase following the global crisis in 2012, investments had risen to $14.7 billion. Annualized inflows, which were $10.3 billion in 2024, entered a marked downward trend over the past two years.

Inflows in the January 2026 Period

According to the January 2026 balance of payments data published by the Central Bank, inflows originating from net direct investments were recorded at just 22 million US dollars in the relevant month.

Share of Real Estate Purchases

January data revealed that a significant portion of the limited investment inflows was also focused on real estate. During this period, the net amount of real estate purchases made by non-residents in Turkey was $163 million.

Change in Capital Appetite

The fact that total direct investment inflows remain at these levels indicates a weakening of foreign capital appetite for value-added areas such as industry and services.
