New Certification Rules for Hotels and Hostels in Effect
With amendments to the Regulation on the Certification of Simple Accommodation Facilities and Beach Businesses, new standards have been introduced for hotels, motels, and hostels.
Under a new regulation published in the Official Gazette for simple accommodation facilities and beach businesses, which constitute a significant portion of touristic facilities in Turkey, a reception desk, first aid personnel, pool safety, and room amenities have been made mandatory.
New Facility Criteria and Reception
It has become mandatory to have a reception desk at the entrance of accommodation facilities with a capacity of 25 rooms and above.
A requirement has been introduced to employ personnel holding a first aid certificate in the facilities.
Pool and Water Safety Standards
The floors and walls of swimming pools will be covered with appropriate materials; regular filtration and disinfection systems will be installed.
Anti-slip floor coverings will be installed around the pool, and at least two certified lifeguards will be assigned depending on the size.
Room and Bathroom Equipment Conditions
In addition to basic items such as beds, closets, electrical outlets, trash cans, and curtains in the rooms, an additional locking system will be installed on doors without electronic locks.
Bathrooms will feature shower cabins or curtains, mirrors, and arrangements to prevent the spread of water.
Transfer Restriction and Inspection
The simple accommodation tourism operation certificate cannot be transferred except through death or inheritance; otherwise, the certificate will be canceled by the governorship.
Ministry controllers have been authorized in facilities under the inspection of municipalities, aiming to raise service standards.
