Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar discussed the new roadmap that will take energy relations between Turkey and Iraq to a stronger dimension in a meeting with Iraqi Oil Minister Hudeir.

New Agreements and Joint Working Groups

Minister Bayraktar stated that following the crude oil transportation contract signed in August between BOTAŞ, SOMO, and NOC, the roadmap for a new long-term and comprehensive agreement has been clarified.

It is planned to activate joint working groups in order to quickly finalize oil and natural gas infrastructure, exploration-production, trade, refinery-petrochemistry, and electricity projects.

Kirkuk-Ceyhan and Supply Security Strategy

At a time when regional developments make supply security critical, Turkey-Iraq relations are being moved to a new dimension.

Extending the Kirkuk-Ceyhan Pipeline to Basra and increasing its capacity is evaluated as a strong alternative to the Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.

TPAO's Role and Ceyhan Energy Hub

The national company TPAO is targeted to take an active role in various fields in Iraq, primarily the Kirkuk fields.

It is aimed to reach Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaydi's target of supplying 1 million barrels of crude oil and to make Ceyhan a global energy hub.

Development Road Project and Energy Line

Turkey aims to build the Development Road not just as a transportation corridor, but as a strategic energy route.

It was resolutely emphasized that projects along this route will be supported by oil, natural gas, and electricity transmission lines.
