New Period MTP Statement from Minister Işıkhan

Minister of Labour and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan announced that the new Medium-Term Program covering the years 2027-2029 has been published in the Official Gazette, and disclosed targets for combating unemployment and employment.

New MTP Published in the Official Gazette

Minister of Labour and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan stated in a post on his social media account that the new Medium-Term Program (MTP), which includes Turkey's development targets, steps to be taken in the field of economy, policies, and reforms for the next three years, has been published in the Official Gazette.

Emphasizing that they have recently achieved significant successes with the impact of the previous period's MTP, the National Employment Strategy, and policies aimed at improving working life, Işıkhan gave a message of determination for the new period.

Employment and Unemployment Targets

Noting that in line with the MTP covering the years 2027-2029, they will continue to identify the needs of the workforce and take necessary steps, increase employment, and resolutely combat unemployment, Minister Işıkhan announced that they will organize active labor market programs.

Stating that it is projected to provide 2.1 million additional employment during this process, Işıkhan expressed that the unemployment rate is estimated to be 8 percent in 2027, 7.8 percent in 2028, and 7.6 percent in 2029.

Special Groups and Transformation Policies

Stating that the labor force participation of women, youth, and citizens with disabilities will be facilitated, Minister Işıkhan noted that young people will be prepared for working life through holistic policies such as the Production Age of Youth.

He also emphasized that a Just Transition Strategy regarding the effects of green and digital transformation on labor markets will be prepared, the fight against informal employment will be continued, and the actuarial balance of the social security system will be supported.
