The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced that it struck three US-linked vessels and three oil tankers on the grounds that they were following an unauthorized route in the Strait of Hormuz.
This move came immediately after the US military announced it had destroyed three Iranian crude oil tankers, stating that they were financing regional proxy groups.
Iran Warns of Severe Response to the US
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf stated that any potential new attack against his country would be met with a much faster, heavier, and painful response.
Meanwhile, the Revolutionary Guard claimed it carried out a ballistic missile attack on a US aircraft carrier and a naval destroyer operating in the region.
Statements from the US Central Command
The US Central Command announced that the missiles were successfully defended against by the targeted aircraft carrier and guided-missile destroyer.
The official statement confirmed that no American personnel were harmed in the attacks and that the vessels evaded the missiles.
Volcanic Eruption and Flights in Indonesia
The activation of the Anak Krakatau volcano in Indonesia led to the suspension of hundreds of flights at the main airport in Jakarta.
Due to the eruption, some activities in schools within the region were halted, and fishing operations were temporarily suspended.
