Number of foreign tourists visiting Turkey in August announced

According to provisional data obtained from the General Directorate of Security and announced by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the number of foreigners visiting Turkey in August 2026 decreased by 0.03 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, standing at 6,963,065.

According to provisional data announced by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the number of foreigners visiting Turkey in the August 2026 period was recorded as 6,963,065.

While this figure represents a 0.03 percent decrease compared to the same month of the previous year, the data was also recorded as the lowest annualized number of tourists in two years.

January-August Period Developments

Considering the first eight months of the year, it was observed that the number of foreign visitors coming to Turkey declined.

In the January-August period, the number of foreign visitors experienced a 1.84 percent drop, realizing at 34,826,677.

Provinces Receiving the Most Visitors in August

Among the provinces through which foreign visitors entering Turkey arrived in August 2026, Antalya ranked first.

In August, 2,523,505 people, corresponding to 36.24 percent of foreign visitors, entered the country through Antalya.

August Distribution of Other Provinces

Antalya was followed by Istanbul with 1,929,358 visitors.

Following Istanbul, Muğla ranked with 642,849 visitors, Edirne with 485,468 visitors, and Izmir with 240,212 visitors, respectively.

Istanbul Stood Out in the Eight-Month Period

In the January-August period of 2026, the province where foreign visitors entered the most was Istanbul.

Istanbul accounted for 35.82 percent of total entries with 12,473,679 visitors.

Other Cities in the Eight-Month Period

Istanbul was followed by Antalya with 10,282,502 visitors and a 29.52 percent share.

These cities were followed by Edirne, Muğla, and Izmir respectively, completing the visitor distribution for the eight-month period.
