OECD lowers Turkey's 2026 growth forecast while raising inflation expectations

In its published September report, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development revised Turkey's economic growth rate downward for 2026 while increasing inflation forecasts.

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development updated its growth and inflation forecasts for Turkey in its September Economic Outlook report.

2026 and 2027 Growth Forecasts Revised Downward

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development lowered Turkey's economic growth forecast for 2026 from 3.1 percent in June to 2.7 percent.

The organization also reduced its growth expectation for 2027 from 3.8 percent to 3.6 percent, going for a downward revision in the two-year outlook.

Changes in Global Growth Expectations

The growth expectation for the global economy in 2026 was raised from 2.8 percent to 2.9 percent.

Conversely, the 2027 global growth projection was pulled down from 3.1 percent to 3 percent.

Headline Inflation Projections Revised Upward

Price expectations regarding Turkey were readdressed in the report, increasing headline inflation forecasts.

The 2026 inflation projection, announced as 28.4 percent in June, was raised to 31.5 percent.

Turkey's 2027 headline inflation expectation was increased from 18.3 percent to 24.7 percent.

Monetary Policy in Emerging Economies

The path to be followed by monetary policy in emerging economies was highlighted in the report.

It was estimated that interest rates would drop as inflation follows a moderate course in Brazil, Indonesia, South Africa, and Turkey.
