Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum announced that more than 205 million beverage packages were recovered for recycling between July 1 and September 5 through the Deposit Return System (DOA).

Data Obtained Through the DOA System

Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum shared the current statistics regarding the Deposit Return System (DOA) project in a post on his social media account.

With the DOA system, which started its national integration process across Turkey as of July 1, a total of 205,709,303 PET, aluminum, and glass beverage packages with the DOA logo were collected up to September 5.

Number of Registered Users is Increasing

As a result of citizens' interest driven by environmental awareness and economic incentives, the total number of users registered in the DOA system reached 3,214,992 people.

Emphasizing that the awareness of DOA, alongside the Zero Waste awareness, continues to grow in waves, Minister Kurum drew attention to the contributions the system offers to the environment and the economy.

Provinces with the Most Collected Packaging

According to the disclosed data, the province where the most packaging was collected across Turkey was Antalya with 46,678,972 units.

Antalya was followed by Istanbul with 38,675,928 packages, Izmir with 24,339,288 packages, Adana with 18,723,778 packages, and Ankara with 16,712,516 packages.

Working Principle and Objectives of the System

In the project carried out by the Turkish Environment Agency (TÜÇA) under the coordination of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, beverage packages are discarded into DOA machines instead of going to waste.

In this process, which prevents plastics from mixing into nature, citizens are paid an incentive fee of 1 lira per package, and it is targeted to collect 25 billion packages annually, contributing 30 billion liras to the country's economy.
