Penalties applied in domestic market inspections in the first eight months of 2026 announced

Hundreds of thousands of companies were inspected as part of efforts to protect market stability. A total of 2.24 billion liras in fines was levied on those who failed to comply with the rules.

According to the first 8-month market inspection data for 2026 shared by the Ministry of Trade, strict controls were carried out against actions that disrupted the supply-demand balance in the domestic market and negatively affected consumers. During this process, hundreds of thousands of companies and millions of products were inspected, and billions of liras in administrative fines were imposed due to various violations.

General Inspection Figures for the First Eight Months of the Year

Internal trade inspection units carried out comprehensive studies in the first 8 months of the year in order to maintain stability in the domestic market and safeguard the economic welfare of consumers. As a result of these checks, a total of 321,911 companies and 39,243,067 products were inspected, and a total of 2.24 billion liras in administrative fines were issued to those where violations were detected.

Sectoral Inspections by the Directorate General of Internal Trade

Examinations were conducted by the Directorate General of Internal Trade within the scope of automotive, stockpiling, real estate, jewelry, exorbitant pricing, unfair commercial practices, and payment periods. As a result of the inspections carried out, a total of 692,028,000 liras in administrative fines were levied on 5,574 people determined to have engaged in contrary actions. The penalty amount regarding exorbitant prices was recorded as 399,546,000 liras.

Administrative Fines Applied by Sectors

An administrative fine of 142,630,000 liras was applied to the automotive sector, 39,028,000 liras to the real estate sector, and 13,122,000 liras to the jewelry sector. Additionally, the amount of fines imposed as a result of inspections regarding commercial electronic messages, working hours, and licensed warehouses amounted to 91,842,000 liras.

Activities of the Directorate General for Consumer Protection

The Directorate General for Consumer Protection and Market Surveillance carried out checks in the fields of contracts, advertisements, unfair commercial practices, and product safety. In this context, it was reported that a total of 771,093,000 liras in administrative fines were imposed on 1,342 real and legal entities engaging in contrary acts.

Local Inspection Results of Provincial Trade Directorates

During the checks carried out across the country through provincial trade directorates, 229,643 companies were inspected. Administrative fines totaling 777,631,000 liras were applied to 47,474 companies determined not to comply with the rules. Intense product and company examinations were conducted in metropolitan cities during the inspections.

Product and Company Controls Concentrated in Metropolitan Cities

In the inspections conducted, a fine of 578,534,000 liras was levied regarding 123,759 products where violations were detected in Istanbul. In Ankara 14,514,943, in Istanbul 5,151,297, and in Antalya 4,425,023 products underwent inspection.

Competition Authority Administrative Fine Data

Within the scope of the work carried out by the Competition Authority, a total of 13,230,770,000 liras in administrative fines were given to 227 companies in 2025. It was announced that the total penalty amount imposed on 248 companies in the first 8-month period of 2026 was 19,700,000,000 liras.
