The postponement of the planned diplomatic meeting between Iran and Gulf countries, coupled with attacks around strategic oil transit routes, escalated global energy supply concerns and caused oil prices to rise.

Postponement of Diplomatic Talks

The postponement of the high-level meeting planned between Iran and other Gulf countries for Monday disrupted diplomatic efforts in the Middle East. Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi announced late Sunday that the regional meeting was postponed in order to reach a consensus.

Iranian officials had previously stated that they would attend the meeting with Arab countries of the Gulf to present the agreement reached with Oman regarding the management of maritime transport routes in the Strait of Hormuz. An Iranian Foreign Ministry official reported that the meeting was postponed by the joint decision of Tehran and Muscat upon the request of certain regional countries.

Damage to the Oil Pipeline

Risks to the supply of Saudi Arabia, the world's largest oil exporter, have increased. The country kept the 1,200-kilometer East-West oil pipeline, which was damaged in drone attacks on Friday, closed throughout the weekend.

Global Energy Supply and Prices

New attacks seen around strategic transit routes and pipelines paved the way for oil prices to rise upon the reopening of the markets. As hopes for a diplomatic solution in the short term weaken, concerns regarding energy supply are deepening globally.
