President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Heads of State Summit.

Bilateral Meeting Within the Scope of the Summit

Russian President Vladimir Putin came together with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan within the scope of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Heads of State Summit.

Making statements at the beginning of the meeting, Vladimir Putin stated that relations with Turkey are always kept under control and that economic ties are proceeding at a high level.

Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant Project

Among the main topics discussed by the two leaders was the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant, for which the target of commissioning the first unit this year was set.

President Erdoğan, on the other hand, stated that the plant is entering its final construction period and indicated that steps could be taken for some new nuclear power plants after the opening.

Tourism and Economic Cooperation

Russian leader Putin conveyed that the number of Russian tourists coming to Turkey has increased and that approximately 7 million Russian citizens visited the country last year.

President Erdoğan also pointed out that Russian friends constitute Antalya's most important tourist network, drawing attention to the strong partnership in tourism, agriculture, and energy fields.
