Privatization decision for bridges and highways published in the Official Gazette

In line with the decision signed by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and published in the Official Gazette, certain bridges and highways in Turkey were included in the privatization program. Following the debates, the Privatization Administration issued a written statement.

Decision Published in the Official Gazette

In accordance with the new decision published in the Official Gazette with the signature of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, certain bridges and highways in Turkey were included in the privatization program. With this decision, new routes were added to the existing ones.

Routes Included in Privatization

The Edirne-Istanbul-Ankara, Pozantı-Tarsus-Mersin, Tarsus-Adana-Gaziantep, and Toprakkale-İskenderun highways, along with the Bosphorus and Fatih Sultan Mehmet bridges, are included in the list.

Additionally, certain sections of the Niğde-Pozantı Highway, Gaziantep Ring Road, and Bursa Ring Road were also included in the privatization process.

Statement from the Privatization Administration

The Privatization Administration emphasized that the process is not a sale of property, but rather a preparatory study based on the transfer of operating rights on the condition that ownership remains with the state.

It was stated that the priority is not to generate revenue, but to increase service quality and accelerate investments.

600 Million Dollar Revenue Debate

The Administration reported that claims suggesting the highways make a net profit of 600 million dollars annually do not reflect the truth.

It was explained that the amount in question is not net profit but gross revenue, and half of it is spent on maintenance expenses.

Tolls and Employee Rights

It was stated that there is no situation such as turning currently free roads into toll roads or planning an additional increase in tolls.

It was noted that there is no decision that would cause employees to lose their existing legal rights.
