Production Halted at Libyan Oil Fields Due to Valve Closure
The closure of the Hamada-Zawiya main oil pipeline has led to a complete halt in production activities at two major fields in the country.
Production activities at the Hamada and Al-Tahara oil fields have been suspended after a group affiliated with the Petroleum Facilities Guard closed the valve of the main pipeline in Libya.
Valve Closures Strike a Blow to Production
According to a statement by Libya's National Oil Corporation (NOC), a group from the Petroleum Facilities Guard closed the valve of the main Hamada-Zawiya oil pipeline in the west of the country. As a result of this intervention, pressure in the production lines suddenly rose, and activities at the Hamada and Al-Tahara oil fields completely stopped.
Force Majeure and Call to Authorities
The NOC reported that if the valve of the Hamada-Zawiya main oil pipeline remains closed, it may be forced to declare force majeure. The corporation made a clear call to the relevant authorities to shoulder their responsibilities and eliminate the root causes of the crisis.
Protest at Zawiya Refinery
A day before this incident, a group from the Petroleum Facilities Guard had held a demonstration at the Zawiya Oil Refinery demanding the improvement of financial conditions. The protesters blocked access by dumping piles of sand in front of the refinery's entrance gates using excavators.
