Pumpkin Produced in Elazığ Yarımca Village Exported to the TRNC
Pumpkins, which were planted for trial purposes in Yarımca village years ago, were sent abroad for the first time this season thanks to the increasing yield.
Pumpkin, which was planted for trial purposes twenty years ago in Yarımca village of Elazığ's Kovancılar district, was exported for the first time this year to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) with its increasing production amount and high quality.
The Road from Trial Planting to Export
After the first seeds planted for trial purposes by a producer in Yarımca village of Elazığ's Kovancılar district yielded high efficiency, and the crop gained appreciation with its size and unique aroma, other farmers in the village also turned to pumpkin cultivation.
With the increase in production areas in the village over time, approximately 1,200 tons of pumpkins began to be grown annually, and the product became one of the most important sources of livelihood for the villagers.
Shipments Made to Different Cities and Cyprus
Pumpkins meticulously grown in Yarımca village were offered for sale in markets in various provinces of Turkey, and this year they were delivered to the TRNC through exporting companies.
While farmers stated that they also sent shipments to provinces such as Istanbul, Erzurum, Van, Sivas, and Kayseri, they expressed that they exported 10 tons of pumpkins to Cyprus for the first time this year.
Agricultural Potential and Provincial Directorate Evaluation
Elazığ Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Saadettin Taşkesen stated that an annual average of 4,000 tons of pumpkins are grown across the city.
He expressed that the increasing pumpkin production in Yarımca village has revealed a new agricultural potential and is an important source of livelihood for the local people.
