Record Levels in Turkey's Exports for August and on an Annual Basis

Turkey reached its highest monthly export level in August with $23.5 billion, while the annualized export figure refreshed the Republic's history record at $280.3 billion.

According to data announced by Minister of Trade Ömer Bolat and TİM President Mustafa Gültepe, Turkey's exports in August increased by 8 percent compared to the same period last year. The export performance, which reached $185 billion in the January-August period, pointed to a historic peak of $280.3 billion on an annualized basis.

Highlights in Foreign Trade Data

The $23.5 billion in exports recorded in August went down in history as Turkey's highest August performance to date. In the eight-month period covering January-August, total exports rose by 4 percent to $185 billion.

During the same period, imports increased by 5.3 percent to $250.8 billion, while the foreign trade deficit rose by 9.3 percent to $65.8 billion.

Sectoral Performance and Export Markets

On a sectoral basis, the automotive sector stood out with $2.8 billion in exports, while the chemical substances sector followed with $2.7 billion. Although the defense and aviation sector experienced a decline in August, it reached $6.3 billion with a 16.2 percent increase in the eight-month total.

Countries such as the USA, China, Switzerland, Egypt, and Libya were among the notable markets in export growth. Minister Bolat stated that exports have maintained their resilience despite global economic challenges.

Financing Support for Exporters

TİM President Mustafa Gültepe drew attention to the challenges in the competitiveness of exporters and stated that the 250 billion TL financing package for the manufacturing industry is of critical importance.

Gültepe also emphasized that the foreign exchange conversion support regulation, expected to be implemented in October, will create a new support mechanism for exporters.
