Scope Expanded in Fund Investigation and Key Figures Placed Under Scrutiny
In the judicial process regarding the investment fund crisis, the scope has been expanded with suspicious transactions and a request for permission concerning the former CMB chairman.
While the scope of the investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office into the investment fund has been expanded to cover the period between 2024 and 2026, approximately 50 individuals executing large transactions have been identified, and an investigation permit has been requested for the former CMB Chairman.
Expansion of the Investigation and Transactions
It was stated that approximately 50 individuals who carried out the largest transactions in the investment fund investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office have been identified by name.
It was reported that the examinations cover the period from 2024 to September 2026, and simultaneous movements between funds and stocks are being analyzed.
Crime Qualifications and Number of Detainees
It was reported that the acts in the ongoing files are evaluated within the scope of qualified fraud, establishing an organization for the purpose of committing crimes, money laundering, and market manipulation.
It was noted that the number of detainees in the fund investigation rose to 85, and judicial proceedings continue for a total of 217 suspects.
Request for Permit Regarding Former CMB Chairman
Within the framework of the investigation, an investigation permit was requested for abuse of office against the former Capital Markets Board Chairman İbrahim Ömer Gönül.
In the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office's letter dated September 30, 2026, it was stated that there are indications that Gönül failed to fulfill his duties regarding the supervision of investment funds during his term.
Ministry and Investor Payments
Following the request, Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek tasked the Inspection Board with conducting a preliminary review regarding the former CMB Chairman.
It was stated that payments to approximately 355,000 investors whose losses are below 1 million liras are planned to be made within this month using confiscated assets.
