September Household Inflation Expectations and Demographic Breakdowns Announced

In September, household inflation expectations were reshaped around demographic groups, product preferences, and exchange rate forecasts.

The household inflation expectations for September were shared with the public based on demographic breakdowns such as gender, age, income, and education, as well as product groups, housing prices, the US dollar exchange rate, and investment preferences.

Expectations by Gender and Age Groups

According to the gender breakdown, men's inflation expectation rose from 44.2 percent in August to 44.6 percent in September. For women, this rate declined from 47.4 percent to 47.0 percent.

When age groups were examined, expectations in the 18-39 age range increased from 43.9 percent to 44.1 percent. In the 40-54 age group, it decreased from 45.7 percent to 45.3 percent, while it reached 48.3 percent from 48.1 percent in the 55 and older group.

Changes in Income and Education Levels

Based on income groups, the inflation expectation of participants with a minimum wage income and below rose from 48.3 percent to 49.4 percent. For those with an income between one and two minimum wages, it dropped from 46.1 percent to 45.3 percent.

Among participants with an income of two minimum wages and above, the inflation expectation increased from 43.5 percent to 43.7 percent. According to the level of education, the rate recorded an increase among those with a primary school education and below.

Product Groups and Areas Expected to See the Most Increases

The main groups that households evaluated as having experienced the highest price increases over the past year and expected to rise in the upcoming period were food, as well as fuel and energy.

The share of those who thought food was the group whose price increased the most decreased by 1.5 points to 37.8 percent. The proportion of those putting fuel and energy in first place rose from 33.6 percent to 36.2 percent.

Housing, US Dollar Exchange Rate, and Investment Preferences

At the end of the next 12 months, the expectation of an increase in housing prices decreased by 1.44 points compared to the previous month, standing at 30.69 percent. The expectation for the US dollar exchange rate 12 months later was 55.90 TL, with an increase of 1.43 TL.

Among investment preferences, the proportion of those stating they would buy gold rose to 43.0 percent, while the rate of those considering real estate purchases fell to 33.6 percent.
