The Privatization Administration issued a written statement regarding the ongoing work on highways and bridges operated by the General Directorate of Highways, sharing the information that ownership will remain with the state and that annual profit claims do not reflect the truth.
Transfer of Operating Rights is Essential
The Privatization Administration stated that the ongoing preparatory work does not involve the sale of public assets.
Within the scope of the process, a model is being evaluated where the operating right is transferred for a certain period, provided that the ownership remains with the state.
Service Quality and Efficiency Target
In the statement, it was specifically emphasized that generating revenue is not the priority in this model.
It is aimed to increase service quality on highways, accelerate maintenance and investments, and enhance operational efficiency.
Statements Regarding Profit Claims
It was reported that the claims in the public sphere regarding an annual profit of 600 million dollars and a total profit of 18 billion dollars for 30 years are incomplete and misleading.
It was noted that the said 600 million dollars is not a direct profit but revenue, and this amount includes maintenance, repair, investment, and personnel expenses.
Price Increase and Official Gazette Decision
It was emphasized that there is no question of making free highways toll roads or taking a decision for an additional increase in toll fees.
It was recalled that the Privatization Administration was authorized by the Presidential Decree published in the Official Gazette dated September 5, 2026.
