International Media Meeting Held

Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek, and Head of the Presidential Strategy and Budget Directorate İbrahim Şenel attended the Medium-Term Program International Media Meeting held at the Presidential Complex.

Coming together with foreign press members at the meeting, the economic administration made comprehensive evaluations regarding the planning for the 2027-2029 period and answered journalists' questions.

International Relations and Combat Topics

Stating that he attended the celebration at the US Embassy in Ankara, Minister Mehmet Şimşek expressed that they are in close cooperation with allies.

Emphasizing that Turkey is determined in the fight against the financing of terrorism, money laundering, and illegal trade, Şimşek noted that companies must act in full compliance with national legislation.

Natural Gas Payments and Exchange Rate Regime Evaluation

He stated that payments for natural gas imports from Iran are not made directly, and the money kept in a strictly audited account within the framework of the agreement reached with the US is used for permitted items such as food and medicine.

Stating that speculations regarding the exchange rate regime have no basis, Şimşek said that they desire to return to a floating exchange rate regime, but conditions such as lower inflation and two-way movement in the foreign exchange market need to form for this.

Emphasis on Inflation and Price Stability

Stating that claims regarding inflation targets do not reflect the truth, Şimşek indicated that their commitment to price stability is complete, and that global supply shocks and inflation inertia affect the process.

Expressing that the disinflation program will be continued with determination, Şimşek noted that they take the pressure of the cost of living extremely seriously and that the ultimate goal is sustainable high growth with a fair distribution of income.

Earthquake Zone Investments and Housing Deliveries

He reported that 104 billion dollars were transferred for the reconstruction of the earthquake zone and that 621,000 houses have been delivered or are at the stage of delivery.

Stating that rental inflation has declined in the region thanks to these investments, officials conveyed that the reconstruction process is continuing as planned.
