China and the US have reached comprehensive agreements on trade facilitation, tariff reductions, coal imports, and artificial intelligence.
According to a statement by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, the two countries agreed on establishing new committees to facilitate trade, implementing mutual tariff reductions on 30 billion dollars worth of goods trade, and coal imports.
Trade Committee and Tariff Reductions
The Chinese Ministry of Commerce announced that an agreement was reached to establish a Trade Committee aimed at facilitating trade between the two countries. It was stated that as a result of consultations within this committee, mutual tariff reductions will be implemented on 30 billion dollars worth of goods trade.
Coal Imports and Agriculture Group
It was reported that coal imports were also included in the scope of mutual tariff reductions, and that China will import coal from the US in the years 2027 and 2028. Additionally, an agricultural working group will be established under the Trade Committee to discuss increasing market access.
Investment Committee and Financial Services
Within the scope of the economic and trade consultations mechanism, an Investment Committee will be formed to provide an institutional platform against barriers to potential investments. Regarding financial services, China will evaluate applications from all financial institutions, including those with US capital.
Artificial Intelligence Dialogue and Extension
While delegations led by Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng and US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent held their initial discussions on artificial intelligence, it was decided to extend the provisional agreement period until January 10, 2027.
