Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey Governor Fatih Karahan came together with members of parliament at the Turkish Grand National Assembly Planning and Budget Committee to deliver a presentation on economic developments.
Shift of Funds Toward Deposits
Karahan stated that recently there have been outflows from money market and similar funds, but the money leaving these funds has largely directed toward deposits.
Disinflation and Risks
Stating that the disinflation process continues despite geopolitical uncertainties, Karahan expressed that upside risks on energy prices persist.
Domestic Demand and Tight Policy
Emphasizing that the slowdown in domestic demand has become pronounced thanks to the tight monetary policy stance, Karahan noted that retail investors continue to sell foreign currency and precious metals.
Future Period Expectations
Reporting that a decline in the main trend of inflation has been observed again since July, Karahan said that all tools will continue to be used decisively in line with the price stability target.
