Sixty-four percent of Americans who participated in the recent public opinion poll state that artificial intelligence technology is developing way too fast. While 27 percent of participants indicate that this development is moving along the right track, only 8 percent think the process is too slow.
Demand for Human Control and Protection of the Workforce
Roughly eight out of ten adults participating in the research find it extremely important for the U.S. government to keep artificial intelligence under human control and protect the country's workforce. These expectations stand out as a bipartisan source of concern.

President Donald Trump opposes slowing down artificial intelligence development due to concerns over China gaining supremacy in the technology sector. Research participants also consider minimizing environmental harm and economic growth to be important.

The poll, conducted by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, was completed with the participation of 2,140 adults. The data was collected between September 24 and 28 using NORC's probability-based AmeriSpeak Panel.
