The USA rises to become Turkey's second-largest export market
While Turkey's total exports for the January-August period reached $185 billion, the USA became the second country with the highest exports, registering a 12.9% increase.
According to data from the Turkish Exporters Assembly, Turkey's exports increased by 4% in the January-August period of this year to reach $185 billion. While Germany maintained its top spot, the USA was recorded as the second-largest export market with a 12.9% increase and $9.6 billion.
January-August Export Figures
According to information compiled from the data of the Turkish Exporters Assembly, the country's total exports showed a 4% increase in the January-August period of this year compared to the same period of last year. The total export volume rose from $177.9 billion to the $185 billion level.
Position of Germany and the USA
During the same period, Germany ranked first in Turkey's total exports with $13 billion 576 million 381 thousand. The USA was recorded as the second country to which Turkey made the most exports during this period.
Exports to the USA increased by 12.9%, rising from $8 billion 535 million 644 thousand to $9 billion 636 million 664 thousand.
Prominent Sectors and Increases
In Turkey's exports to the USA over the 8-month period, the chemicals and chemical products and electrical and electronics sectors stood out. Meanwhile, the steel sector's exports in August increased by 404.6% compared to the same period of last year.
Exports of the chemicals and chemical products sector to the country increased by 33.7% to reach $1 billion 43.4 million. Exports of the electrical and electronics sector also rose by 41.8% to $996.4 million.
Other Sectoral Developments
The automotive industry's exports to the USA increased by 3.5% to reach $841.2 million. Cereals, pulses, oil seeds and products exports realized a 4.7% increase, amounting to $596.9 million.
Ready-to-wear and apparel exports rose by 6.5% to $594.8 million, machinery and parts sector exports increased by 27.2% to $530.8 million, and carpet sector exports rose by 5.2% to $486.7 million.
Export Distribution by Provinces
Looking on a provincial basis, Istanbul realized the highest exports to the USA in the January-August period with $3 billion 423.8 million. Istanbul's exports to the USA increased by 9.1% compared to the same period of last year.
Istanbul was followed by Ankara with $976.5 million, Izmir with $819.7 million, Gaziantep with $816.4 million, and Kocaeli with $700.3 million.
Export Growth Rates in Cities
