Total Deposits of the Banking Sector Increased by 1.22 Percent
The Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey published monetary and banking data for the week of August 21; total reserves and the banking sector deposit volume increased.
According to the monetary and banking statistics for the week ending August 21 announced by the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey, the total deposits of the banking sector registered an increase while CBRT total reserves reached 188 billion 449 million dollars.
Deposit Developments
In the week ending August 21, the total deposits of the banking sector showed an increase of 1.22 percent, rising to 33 trillion 649 billion 628 million 251 thousand liras.
Deposit Types
In the same period, Turkish lira-denominated deposits increased by 0.51 percent to reach the level of 18 trillion 307 billion 405 million 591 thousand liras. Foreign currency-denominated deposits, on the other hand, increased by 2.95 percent to become 11 trillion 182 billion 942 million 316 thousand liras.
Loan Volume
Consumer loans of domestic residents decreased by 1.46 percent, falling to 6 trillion 769 billion 295 million 940 thousand liras. The total loan volume of the sector increased by 569 million 418 thousand liras to reach 26 trillion 961 billion 648 million 784 thousand liras.
Foreign Exchange Reserves
The gross foreign exchange reserves of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey registered a decrease of 938 million dollars as of August 21, dropping to 74 billion 228 million dollars.
Gold Reserves
An increase of 5 billion 886 million dollars occurred in the Central Bank's gold reserves within the same week, and the reserves rose to 114 billion 221 million dollars.
Total Reserve Increase
The total reserves of the Central Bank increased by 4 billion 949 million dollars compared to the previous week, reaching 188 billion 449 million dollars from 183 billion 500 million dollars.
