TSI 2025 Foreign Trade Statistics Announced: The Share of Large-Scale Companies

According to Turkish Statistical Institute data, a significant portion of foreign trade in 2025 was carried out by large-scale enterprises and the top 500 exporters.

The Foreign Trade Statistics by Enterprise Characteristics for 2025, announced by the Turkish Statistical Institute, clarified the shares of companies in exports and imports.

Export and Import Distribution

The Turkish Statistical Institute shared the Foreign Trade Statistics by Enterprise Characteristics for 2025 with the public. According to the disclosed data, large-scale enterprises with 250 or more employees realized 46.1% of exports and 59.4% of imports.

In 2025, a total of 166,459 enterprises engaged in export activities, while 323,769 enterprises took part on the importing side.

Export Ratios by Scale

Micro-scale enterprises with 1-9 employees accounted for 18.3% of total exports. These businesses made up 74.2% of all exporting enterprises.

The share of small-scale enterprises in exports was recorded at 17.3%, and medium-scale enterprises at 18.3%.

Import Weight of Large Companies

It was observed that the weight of large companies was higher on the import side. Micro-scale enterprises carried out 10.7% of total imports.

While large-scale enterprises reached a 59.4% share in imports, these companies constituted only 1.1% of all importing enterprises.

Share of the Industry Sector

According to their main economic activity, enterprises operating in the industry sector realized 57.6% of exports. The share of the industry sector in imports was 45.4%.

The trade sector's share was recorded as 37.7% in exports and 37.8% in imports.

Role of the Top 500 Enterprises

In 2025, the top 500 enterprises with the highest foreign trade volume shouldered 51% of total exports and 64.8% of imports.

The share of the top 5 exporting enterprises in total exports was calculated as 8.9%, and the share of the top 5 importing enterprises as 13.8%.

Country Diversity and Concentration

While 39% of exporting enterprises sold to only one country, the proportion of those exporting to twenty or more countries remained at 3.2%.

In imports, 84.6% of enterprises purchased products from a single country, whereas the proportion of those importing from twenty or more countries was 0.8%.
