Turkey's 2040 Energy Vision and Thorium Reserves Announced
Minister Bayraktar shared Turkey's 2040 New Energy Architecture targets, electrification vision, and the latest status on thorium studies and the nuclear field.
Attending the International Energy Agency Report promotional meeting, Minister Bayraktar announced Turkey's 2040 New Energy Architecture targets, electrification plans, and recent developments in nuclear projects to the public.
New Energy Architecture and Targets
Minister Bayraktar made statements at the introductory meeting of the Turkey Energy Policies Review Report prepared by the International Energy Agency. It was stated that the Turkey National Energy Plan has been revised within the scope of the new energy architecture.
Electric Vehicle and Infrastructure Plans
Stating that electrification is at the center of the new energy architecture, Bayraktar said that the target is to have 8 to 10 million electric vehicles on the roads in Turkey by 2035.
Public Companies and Supply Security
It was reported that a restructuring program has been prepared to transform public companies such as Turkish Petroleum, BOTAŞ, TEİAŞ, EÜAŞ, and Eti Maden into national champions. It was also emphasized that natural gas storage facilities are full ahead of the winter season.
Nuclear Energy and Thorium Studies
It was announced that the first reactor of the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant is in the testing process and efforts are underway to commission it within the next few months. It was reported that Turkey officially possesses 374 thousand tons of thorium reserves in the Eskişehir and Malatya regions.
