Turkey's 2050 Nuclear Energy Capacity Target Determined
Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar met with the Director General of Rosatom to discuss Akkuyu NPP projects and the country's capacity increase plans for the future period.
Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar announced that during his meeting with Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev, the latest status at the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant was addressed and it is targeted to increase nuclear capacity to 20,000 megawatts by 2050.
Critical Meeting Held at the Ministry
Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar met with Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev at the Ministry headquarters. During this bilateral contact, the current situations of joint projects in the energy field were comprehensively discussed.
Works Carried Out at Akkuyu NPP
During the meeting, the latest point at the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant, which is the most important step of Turkey's long-term nuclear energy journey, was evaluated. Intensive works carried out on-site to commission the first unit of the facility and the construction processes of the other three reactors were addressed.
Future Period Nuclear Energy Plans
It was emphasized that Turkey's nuclear energy initiative will not be limited to Akkuyu alone, and new projects will be put into operation for the country's energy supply security. New nuclear power plants planned in the Sinop and Thrace regions, along with small modular reactors, form the cornerstone of this strategy.
Target Determined for the Year 2050
Minister Alparslan Bayraktar stated that the vision in the nuclear field will grow and officially announced that they aim to bring the country's nuclear energy capacity to the level of 20,000 megawatts by 2050.
