Turkey's exports to European Union countries in the January-August period increased by 3.6 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, rising to $71.8 billion.
General Exports and the EU Market
Turkey's total exports increased by 4 percent in the January-August period of this year compared to the same period of the previous year, rising from $177.9 billion to $185 billion.
During the same period, exports to European Union countries increased by 3.6 percent, rising from $69 billion 320.8 million to $71 billion 788.5 million.
Countries with the Highest Exports
In the January-August period, Germany was the top destination for exports among EU countries with $13 billion 576 million 381 thousand, and exports to this country increased by 3.8 percent.
Germany was followed by Italy with $8 billion 561 million 640 thousand, Spain with $7 billion 238 million 906 thousand, France with $6 billion 925 million 832 thousand, and Romania with $4 billion 891 million 962 thousand.
Countries with the Highest Proportional Increase
The country where exports increased the most on a proportional basis was Malta with a 107 percent rise, and exports to this country reached $671 million 566 thousand.
Malta was followed by Slovakia with a 32.8 percent increase, Finland with 25.3 percent, Bulgaria with 17 percent, and Austria with 14.4 percent.
Prominent Areas on a Sectoral Basis
During the period in question, the automotive industry led exports to EU countries with $20 billion 60.7 million, and the sector's exports increased by 4.5 percent.
The automotive industry was followed by chemicals and chemical products with $9 billion 63 million, and the apparel and clothing sector with $6 billion 541.7 million.
Sector Recording the Highest Increase
The sector that increased its exports to the EU the most in terms of value during the January-August period was iron and non-ferrous metals.
Exports by this sector to EU countries increased by 18.6 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching $5 billion 774.1 million.
Prominent Cities in Exports
Istanbul, Kocaeli, Bursa, Ankara, and Izmir led Turkey's exports to the 27 EU countries.
In the 8-month period of the year, the highest exports to EU countries were made from Istanbul with an amount of $25 billion 440 million.
