Turkish Parliament prepares for new legislative term on October 1
Critical topics such as the economy, digital platform regulations, the alimony system, and social media identity verification will be discussed in the new legislative year of the Parliament.
As the Grand National Assembly of Turkey resumes its work on October 1, the main agenda items of the new legislative term include digital platforms, economic regulations, and comprehensive judicial packages.
New Legislative Term Begins
In accordance with the Constitution, the Grand National Assembly of Turkey will officially step into its 5th Legislative Year with the opening speech to be delivered by President Erdoğan on Thursday, October 1. In this new period, which is planned to last until July 1, 2027, the Parliament has many important legal and economic files on its working desk.
Digital Platforms and Representatives
Among the items at the top of the new period's agenda are regulations to ensure that international reservation sites and platforms, such as Booking and Kızılay, open official representatives in Turkey and fulfill their tax obligations.
13th Judicial Package Expected
The 13th judicial package, being prepared under the coordination of the Ministry of Justice and the AKP group, will be one of the most comprehensive legal moves of the new period. Radical changes regarding social media use, the alimony system, and divorce cases are planned to be included in the package.
New Era in Alimony Regulation
A new system is being worked on based on the Constitutional Court's grounds for annulment regarding indefinite alimony. In this direction, it is anticipated that a lower limit will be introduced for alimony payments and a tiered model based on the duration of marriage will be applied.
Identity Verification on Social Media
One of the striking elements of the judicial package will be new measures targeting social media accounts. It is planned to establish an identity verification system integrated with e-Government in order to make the use of real identities mandatory on social media.
Aiming to Combat Crimes
Thanks to the planned identity verification system, it is aimed to associate social media accounts with real individuals. Thus, it is targeted to prevent crimes such as illegal betting, drug trafficking, and prostitution from being committed through these platforms.
