According to the August 2026 Labor Force Statistics announced by the Turkish Statistical Institute, the unemployment rate decreased while employment recorded an increase.
Decline in Unemployment Rate
According to data published by the Turkish Statistical Institute, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in August decreased by 0.3 percentage points compared to the previous month, falling to 7.8 percent.
Decrease in the Number of Unemployed
According to seasonally adjusted data, the number of unemployed decreased by 106,000 people in August, dropping to a total of 2 million 740 thousand.
Number of Employed Persons
The number of employed persons increased by 136,000 people in August compared to the previous month, reaching 32 million 507 thousand, and the employment rate was realized as 48.4 percent.
Labor Force and Participation Rate
While the total labor force increased by 29,000 people in August compared to the previous month, rising to 35 million 247 thousand people, the labor force participation rate remained stable at 52.5 percent.
Unemployment in Youth Population
The unemployment rate in the youth population group decreased by 1.1 percentage points in August compared to the previous month, falling to 13.0 percent.
Working Hours and Idle Labor
While the seasonally and calendar-adjusted weekly average actual working hours increased by 0.5 hours to 42.5 hours, the idle labor force rate was 31.0 percent.
