Decision for the Licensed Field in Eskişehir

An urgent expropriation decision was made for mining activities within the thorium, barite, fluorite, and rare earth elements licensed field held under the General Directorate of Eti Maden Operations. With the decision published in the Official Gazette, thorium has once again come to the forefront.

Properties Under the Scope of Expropriation

A total of 258 properties, including fields and orchards in the neighborhoods of Karkın in Sivrihisar and Okçu and Kızılcaören in Beylikova, were included in the scope of expropriation. Transactions for the area exceeding approximately 2 million 650 thousand square meters will be carried out by Eti Maden.

Turkey's Thorium Reserves

While thorium reserves were identified by MTA in Eskişehir-Sivrihisar, a large source material was detected in Eti Maden's studies. Additionally, thorium formations are also located in Malatya, Kayseri, Sivas, Diyarbakır, and Burdur.

Energy Potential of Thorium

According to expert calculations, 1 ton of thorium is equivalent to the amount of coal and uranium required for 1 gigawatt of continuous power generation. It is stated that Turkey's thorium resources could theoretically suffice for many years.
