In a statement on his social media account, US President Donald Trump argued that Canada does not offer fair trade opportunities to American companies and farmers.

He stated that Canada does not grant market access to American dairy farmers, yet continues to manufacture automobiles due to trade agreements from previous presidential eras.

Procurement Restrictions and Reciprocity

Stating that the Canadian government and its provinces prohibit American small businesses from entering their public procurements, Trump noted that the US, in contrast, provides Canada with access in this regard.

Trump evaluated the situation by saying, "This is not reciprocity; it's a Canadian trade scam. From now on, if there is no reciprocity, there is no access."

Removal from Procurement Schedules

It was requested that Canadian-origin products be removed from the procurement schedules of the General Services Administration until full reciprocity is achieved for American farmers and companies.

Trump announced that he has given formal instructions in this context to the General Services Administration and the Office of the United States Trade Representative.

Emphasis on Economic Volume

It was emphasized that the procurement programs in question possess an economic volume exceeding 50 billion dollars annually.
