The Ministry of Science and Technology has released a new set of indicators covering various criteria ranging from economic scale and technology to human resources and ecosystem, aiming to track the country's progress in the semiconductor industry.

Scope of the Indicator Set

Prepared by the Ministry of Science and Technology, this new system comprehensively monitors not only revenues and investments, but also research and development capabilities, chip manufacturing processes, and ecosystem development.

Five Main Categories

This new set of indicators evaluating Vietnam's growth in the semiconductor industry is gathered under a total of five main headings: economic scale, technology and research & development, manufacturing capacity, human resources, and ecosystem and infrastructure.

Tracking Economic Scale

The economic scale pillar monitors the total revenue of the semiconductor industry. This revenue encompasses all processes related to research, development, design, manufacturing, packaging, and testing activities, as well as the supply of equipment and raw materials for the industry.

Technology and R&D Capacity

The technology and Research & Development pillar focuses on the country's capacity to create technology through critical indicators such as the number of patents, software copyright registrations, the ratio of R&D expenditures, and the number of technology transfers.

Manufacturing Capacity Criteria

The indicators included in the manufacturing capacity pillar consist of the number of design enterprises, chip manufacturing facilities, packaging and testing facilities, and the numbers of domestically produced wafers and semiconductor products.

Human Resources and Education

The human resources pillar goes beyond counting the total number of employees in the sector by tracking the amount of personnel holding university degrees, the number of specialized instructors, and trained individuals who can be brought into the sector.

Ecosystem and Infrastructure

The ecosystem and infrastructure pillar focuses on the number of supporting enterprises contributing to the development of the sector and the presence of functional zones possessing technical infrastructure suitable for the semiconductor industry.
