Vietnam's telecommunication infrastructure exceeds regional average
The Telecommunications Department under the Ministry of Science and Technology announced that the country's mobile and fiber-optic network coverage rates have reached a significant level in the digital economy.
According to data shared by the Telecommunications Department of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Vietnam's telecommunications infrastructure has reached a high level of development compared to the region and the world. While 4G and 5G networks cover a large portion of the country's population, fiber-optic internet access has also spread widely.
Foundation of the Digital Economy
The telecommunications sector has become the fundamental building block of the digital economy, creating a critical foundation in many different areas such as e-commerce, online payments, digital banking, and smart city management.
Mobile and Fiber Network Coverage Rates
4G and 5G mobile networks cover 99.8 percent of the population, while 5G technology alone reaches 91.9 percent of the population. More than 83 percent of households benefit from fiber-optic internet access.
All communes across the country are 100 percent covered with fiber-optic network infrastructure.
Sector Activities and Revenue Expectations
There are a total of 157 businesses licensed to provide telecommunications services in Vietnam; 72 of them have their own infrastructure while 85 businesses do not have infrastructure.
Additionally, Starlink Services Vietnam Co., Ltd. has been granted a license to pilot telecommunications services using low-earth orbit satellite technology.
Telecommunication revenues are projected to increase by 6 percent year-on-year, reaching the level of 380 trillion Vietnamese Dong.
