Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu shared aviation sector data at a summit in Istanbul, announcing that work on Istanbul Airport's 4th main runway is nearing completion.

Statements at the Summit

Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu made important evaluations at the 8th Global Airport Experience Summit held in Istanbul by ACI World. Minister Uraloğlu drew attention to Turkey's developments in the field of aviation in recent years and the mega projects implemented.

Investments and Records

Stating that Turkey has accelerated aviation investments since 2002, Uraloğlu conveyed that the number of active airports has reached 58 and that this number is targeted to be increased to 60. It was also announced that the number of passengers broke a Republic history record, reaching 247 million within the year 2025.

Flight Traffic Figures

Emphasizing that Istanbul Airport holds the position of Europe's busiest airport with an average of 1,665 daily flights, Uraloğlu stated that an all-time record was broken with 1,739 flights on August 16, 2026. It was shared that this record was refreshed once again on August 30 with 1,787 flights.

Fourth Runway Project

Stating that a new phase has been entered following the triple independent runway operation, Minister Uraloğlu reported that the 4th main runway was built with a length of 2,820 meters and a width of 45 meters on the east-west axis. The runway is planned to be put into service shortly after technical tests.
