Electrification to Take Center Stage in Turkey's 2040 Energy Vision
The Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources is preparing to announce its new energy architecture for 2040 to the public in late October or early November.
Speaking at the Energy Roundtable Meeting organized by DEİK TAIK, the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources announced that electrification will form the basis of Turkey's 2040 energy vision and that this strategy will be unveiled in late October or early November.
Energy Roundtable Meeting Held
An important Energy Roundtable Meeting was held as part of the 19th Turkey Investment Conference organized by the Foreign Economic Relations Board Turkey-US Business Council.
Three Main Headings and the 2040 Vision
It was announced that Turkey's energy strategy is built upon three main headings: demand, foreign dependency, and decarbonization.
It was reported that the Vision 2040 study is planned to be announced to the public ahead of COP31 in late October or early November.
Electrification Target Across the Entire Economy
It was stated that electrification will lie at the core of the newly prepared energy vision and that the entire economy—ranging from buildings and industry to transportation and agriculture—will be electrified.
Five Core Policy Areas and Investments
The five core policy areas of the vision were listed as renewable energy, energy efficiency, nuclear energy, oil and natural gas, and minerals.
It was noted that total investments in the energy and mining sectors up to 2040 could exceed 300 billion dollars.
Restructuring of Institutions
During the meeting, it was conveyed that efforts are underway to restructure and reform critical institutions such as Turkish Petroleum, Eti Maden, BOTAŞ, EÜAŞ, and TEİAŞ.
Daily Oil Production Target of 1 Million Barrels
Within the scope of ongoing strategic efforts, it was stated that Turkish Petroleum is targeted to reach a production capacity of 1 million barrels per day by 2035.
Energy Transition and Regional Connections
In his evaluations at the meeting, TAIK President Murat Özyeğin drew attention to the importance of energy transition and regional connections for energy security.
