Legal Action by Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek Regarding Ahmet Şık
In response to social media fund crisis and rent allegations by TİP MP Ahmet Şık, Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek took action by filing a criminal complaint and a lawsuit for damages.
Responding to the fund crisis and Süzer Plaza-centric allegations made by Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP) MP Ahmet Şık, Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek resorted to legal channels following the accusations, filing a criminal complaint and a non-pecuniary damages lawsuit.
Fund Crisis and the Emergence of Allegations
The fund crisis, described by the opposition as the robbery of the century, continues to maintain its place on Turkey's agenda.
Workers' Party of Turkey MP Ahmet Şık had made various allegations via his social media account regarding fund investigations and Süzer Plaza.
Ahmet Şık's Questions and Allegations
MP Ahmet Şık had posed a total of six questions via his social media posts, asking Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek to answer them.
Şık's posts also included certain rent allegations concerning Akın Gürlek and his wife, Elif Gülşah Gürlek.
Strong Reaction from Lawyer Abdullah Adır
Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek's lawyer, Abdullah Adır, stated in a declaration that the allegations put forward by Ahmet Şık were entirely untrue and groundless.
The statement explicitly expressed that the claims were slanderous in nature and targeted the client's personal rights.
Official Residence Statement and Rejection of Rent Allegations
The statement made by lawyer Abdullah Adır emphasized that Akın Gürlek and his wife reside in the official residence allocated to them by the Ministry of Justice.
It was stated that claims regarding the renting of another residence were completely out of the question, and the public was informed accordingly.
Call to Share Documents
Drawing attention to the responsibilities of being a parliamentarian and a journalist, the statement called on Ahmet Şık to share the documents in their possession.
It was stated that if a rental agreement and payment receipt exist, they should be shared with the public immediately, otherwise they would be known as slanderers.
Criminal Complaint and Damages Lawsuit
Following these developments, Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek filed a criminal complaint against Ahmet Şık with the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
It was also shared with the public that a non-pecuniary damages lawsuit was filed against Şık on the grounds that personal rights were violated.
