Parliament Speaker Kurtulmuş's Message on Terrorism-Free Turkey and Iraq
Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş evaluated bilateral relations and regional issues during his meeting with Iraqi Council of Representatives Speaker Haibat al-Halbousi.
Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) Numan Kurtulmuş stated that with the end of PKK terrorism in Turkey, the "Terrorism-Free Turkey" process will have positive reflections on the region and Iraq. Kurtulmuş met with Iraqi Council of Representatives Speaker Haibat al-Halbousi at the TBMM to discuss bilateral relations.

Regional Impacts of the Terrorism-Free Turkey Process
Numan Kurtulmuş stated that the Terrorism-Free Turkey process, which will come into effect with the end of terrorism in Turkey, will have positive impacts on the region and Iraq as soon as possible. He emphasized Turkey's importance given to the stability of the neighboring country.
Disarmament Preparations in Iraq
Kurtulmuş expressed his hope that Iraq would be cleared of terrorist organizations and armed militia groups. He conveyed that he finds the preparations for armed groups to surrender their weapons to the central government starting next month to be extremely important.
State Authority and Collection of Weapons
Haibat al-Halbousi, on the other hand, stated that work in Iraq is ongoing, and expressed that a study will be conducted to bring weapons entirely under state authority on the thirtieth of this month or in October.
Bilateral Relations and Trade Targets
During the meeting, Turkey-Iraq relations, regional developments, and the Development Road Project were discussed. The current trade volume between the two countries is targeted to be increased from seventeen billion dollars to thirty billion dollars.
