Driver Onur Obut has been sentenced to prison in the trial regarding the motorcycle accident in Muğla that claimed the life of Russian influencer Tatiana Ozolina.
The trial of driver Onur Obut, whose involvement led to the death of Russian social media influencer Tatiana Ozolina in a 2024 motorcycle accident in the Milas district of Muğla, has concluded, with the court sentencing the defendant to prison.
Development and Course of the Accident
Russian social media influencer Tatiana Ozolina had a motorcycle accident on the Söke-Milas highway on July 21, 2024, while she was in Turkey as part of a world tour.
When one of the riders in the group heading towards Muğla fell behind, Ozolina and Onur Obut slowed down to wait for their friends.
Council of Forensic Medicine Report
The Council of Forensic Medicine report prepared after the incident stated that Ozolina braked due to a truck appearing in front of her, and Obut, who failed to maintain the following distance, crashed into her from behind.
The report clearly noted that Tatiana Ozolina was entirely free of fault, while the driver who hit her from behind, Onur Obut, was primarily at fault for the accident.
Camera Allegations and Testimonies
One of the elements that caused controversy during the trial was the fate of Ozolina's helmet camera, and witness testimonies led to contradictions in the case file.
Witness I.K., who changed their testimony in court, stated that their previous statement to the police regarding having seen the camera was misunderstood and that they had not seen the helmet camera.
Court Verdict and Appeal Process
In the trial held at the Milas 3rd Criminal Court of First Instance, defendant Onur Obut was sentenced to prison for causing death by negligence.
The court panel initially set the sentence at 3 years and 6 months, and then applied a discount to reduce the sentence to 2 years and 11 months in prison.
