Response from the Ministry of National Defense to Greece's Visit to Meis Island

The Ministry of National Defense reacted harshly to Greece's visit to Meis Island, which has a demilitarized status, and its arming of the islands, stating that rights arising from international law will be resolutely defended.

Emphasis on Good Neighborhood and Rights

In a statement made by the Ministry of National Defense, it was stated that Turkey maintains its constructive attitude in favor of good neighborly relations and dialogue in the Aegean Sea and the Eastern Mediterranean.

The ministry also underlined that the country will continue to protect all its rights and interests stemming from international law.

Meis Island and Military Status

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis' visit to Meis Island and his contact with military elements were officially criticized.

It was emphasized that the presence of military elements on Meis Island, which has a demilitarized status in accordance with the 1947 Paris Peace Treaty, is incompatible with the island's status.

Ministry of National Defense Spokesperson Rear Admiral Zeki Aktürk made statements on current issues at the weekly press briefing meeting.
