Allegation That Tube Was Inserted Into Left Ear Instead of Right Ear in Kocaeli

It is alleged that Murat Tarakçı, who applied to a hospital in Kocaeli's Gebze district with ear pain complaints, had a ventilation tube inserted into his left ear by mistake instead of his problematic right ear.

Hospital Application and Diagnosis

Murat Tarakçı, living in Kocaeli's Gebze district, applied to the hospital with complaints of ear pain. As a result of the examinations, doctors determined that fluid had accumulated in the patient's right middle ear and decided on surgery.

Error Noticed After Surgery

Emerging from the surgery, Tarakçı stated that he felt severe pain in his left ear. When the patient asked healthcare workers which ear had been operated on and received the reply that it was the left ear, he realized the wrong ear had been intervened in.

Second Surgery and Explanations

Upon realizing the mistake, Tarakçı was taken into surgery for a second time under general anesthesia on the same day, and a tube was inserted into his correct ear. Recounting the shock he experienced, the patient stated that he does not want similar situations to happen to others.

Legal Process and Ministry Request

The patient and his lawyer carried the matter to the judiciary and stated that they were awaiting an investigation permit from the Ministry of Health. Hospital management did not make any statement regarding the allegations.
