Comprehensive Support Package for Victims of Sunk Passenger Ship in the TRNC

Prime Minister Ünal Üstel of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus announced that new regulations have been implemented in the fields of law, residency, and health for citizens and foreign nationals affected by the passenger ship that sank off the coast of Kyrenia on August 30.

Legal Support and Judicial Expenses

It was decided to provide legal support to victims affected by the ship disaster in cooperation with the Cyprus Turkish Bar Association. The government announced that financial burdens arising from judicial proceedings have been removed within this scope.

It was officially declared that court fees, stamps, stamp duties, and all other judicial processing expenses will not be collected in lawsuit processes arising from the accident.

Residency Facility and Process Tracking

It was stated that foreign national survivors will not be forced to return to their countries due to the expiration of their residency periods and will be able to closely follow their lawsuits.

Residency facilities were granted to the relatives of the deceased and missing persons, as well as foreign nationals who survived the accident, to enable them to conduct legal processes on-site.

Free Public Healthcare Services

Within the framework of the determined new regulations, significant health support was provided for the included foreign national survivors and their relatives.

It was noted that the relevant individuals can benefit from public health services completely free of charge until August 30, 2027.

Responsibility Emphasized by the State

Prime Minister Ünal Üstel stated that the state stands by its citizens not only on the day of the disaster, but until the consequences of the pains are completely eliminated.

Stating that efforts to reach the missing persons continue, Üstel emphasized that those responsible for this disaster will certainly be held accountable before justice.
