Era of Advanced Techniques and Digital Transformation in Thanh Hoa's Health Sector
Thanh Hoa province's health sector is improving service quality and easing the burden on higher-level hospitals through the application of advanced techniques, scientific research, and digital transformation initiatives.
In line with comprehensive reforms and strategic decisions, the health sector in Thanh Hoa province is modernizing local healthcare infrastructure by developing advanced techniques, encouraging scientific research, and embracing digital transformation to enhance service quality.
Infrastructure and Modernization in the Health System
Healthcare infrastructure in Thanh Hoa province is supported by a robust network consisting of 7 district centers, 38 public hospitals, 26 health centers, and 547 village and ward health stations with a total capacity of 12,560 beds. The private sector also makes a significant contribution to this system with 21 hospitals and 4,165 beds.
Complex medical procedures and techniques that were previously performed only at central-level hospitals are now routinely and successfully applied in local health facilities across the province.
Advanced Medical Techniques and Specialties
In the first eight months of the year, the Ministry of Health reviewed and approved over 400 new technical procedures, including 45 specialized techniques and 84 Type I surgeries. Developments such as pacemaker implantations and endoscopic spine surgeries allow citizens to receive treatment in their hometowns.
While private hospitals have made substantial investments in advanced diagnostic systems such as PET/CT and 3.0 Tesla MRI, laparoscopic surgeries were also performed for the first time in mountainous regions like Quan Son, expanding the scope of services.
Reduction in the Burden on Higher-Level Hospitals
Notable improvements in treatment capacity have directly reduced congestion at higher-level hospitals. In the first six months of 2026, the number of referrals to higher-level hospitals in the province dropped to 92,997, marking a 16 percent decrease compared to the same period last year.
Scientific Research and International Collaborations
Across the sector, 5 provincial-level and 17 local-level scientific research projects have been implemented, and 35 articles authored by healthcare workers have been published. International strategic partnerships established with institutions from Singapore, China, Austria, and the United States have strengthened the exchange of knowledge and experience.
Digital Transformation and Smart Healthcare Ecosystem
Thanh Hoa ranks among the top nationwide in the speed of digital transformation. Electronic medical record systems are implemented in all 60 hospitals across the province, with 36 hospitals having completely eliminated paper use and all institutions achieving VNeID integration.
The One-Stop Health Service model implemented in 38 public hospitals has provided great convenience and savings to citizens by carrying out document registration procedures for newborns directly at the facilities.
