Generators in Gaza Hospitals Nearing Shutdown Due to Lack of Oil and Fuel
Health facilities in Gaza face the danger of complete shutdown due to insufficient fuel, oil, and spare parts for critical generators.
The Ministry of Health in Gaza announced that hospital generators could completely shut down at any moment due to a shortage of fuel, oil, and spare parts, posing a risk of leaving vital departments without electricity.
Generators Reaching the Verge of Stopping
In a statement by the Ministry of Health in Gaza, the latest information regarding the fuel and spare parts crisis in hospitals was shared.
The statement noted that in recent days, some generators have gone out of service due to a lack of oil, spare parts, and adequate fuel.
Insufficient Input Quantities
It was stated that the limited amount of generator oil recently permitted by Israel to enter the region remains only at a level to meet emergency needs.
It was recorded that the current quantity is not sufficient for operating the generators and performing necessary technical maintenance, and that Gaza hospitals need approximately 2,500 liters of generator oil per month.
Severe Conditions and Technical Issues
It was reported that the remaining generators in Gaza Strip hospitals operate 24 hours a day under heavy technical and mechanical conditions.
It was conveyed that the capacities of these devices are insufficient to fully meet the electricity needs of the vital departments in hospitals.
Call for Urgent Maintenance and Supplies
It was emphasized that these generators, experiencing technical and mechanical problems due to the need for urgent oil changes, could go out of service at any moment.
The ministry called for permitting the entry of necessary materials into Gaza so that the generators can continue to operate.
Three-Year Electricity Crisis
Generators constitute the main source of electricity required for the operation of vital departments and medical devices in Gaza hospitals.
In the region where the electricity grid has been completely disabled due to Israeli attacks, hospitals have been meeting their electricity needs this way for about three years.
Status of Border Crossings
The inability to procure the necessary fuel for generators and the denial of entry for spare parts make electricity production unsustainable in hospitals.
It is known that Israel has kept the Kerem Shalom Border Crossing with Gaza closed since October 2023 and has controlled the Rafah Border Crossing since May 2024.
