The Ministry of Health has rolled out the Green, Clean, and Beautiful approach nationwide, consisting of 32 criteria to establish it as a sustainable practice in healthcare organizations.
Determination and Background of the Criteria
The Ministry of Health has requested that healthcare organizations make the Green, Clean, and Beautiful approach a regular practice across all departments. The 32 criteria established within this scope form the foundation for constructing qualified healthcare facilities.
This policy constitutes a part of the long-standing strategies pursued by the Ministry of Health to increase healthcare service quality, protect the environment, and ensure patient satisfaction.
Official Approval Process and Criteria Distribution
As a significant milestone, the Ministry of Health officially approved the aforementioned set of criteria with Decision No. 5959/QD-BYT issued on December 31, 2021.
This approved comprehensive set consists of a total of 32 criteria, including 2 for the green category, 24 for the clean category, and 6 for the beautiful category, and is linked with the 5S model.
Green Space and Landscaping
The green criteria carry a meaning beyond merely planting trees on plots of land and mandate that departments feature appropriately arranged greenery.
Healthcare facilities are required to have a master plan, a tree-planting plan, as well as parks, flower gardens, and lawn areas suitable for current conditions.
Comprehensive Cleaning and Hygiene Standards
The cleaning factor encompasses a broad system ranging from the hygiene of ceilings, walls, floors, corridors, stairwells, patient rooms, and restrooms to ventilation.
Lighting and the cleanliness of outdoor areas also stand at the center of this criteria system, contributing to the maintenance of a hygienic environment.
Infection Control and Competition Activities
The Ministry of Health emphasizes that this initiative contributes to environmental protection, reduces the risk of hospital-acquired infections, and creates a comfortable environment.
In 2024, to increase competition among organizations, the first Green, Clean, and Beautiful Healthcare Facility competition was launched, and medical waste management was prioritized.
