Total spending volume of the sports economy in Turkey announced

According to a comprehensive report, the annual total spending volume of the sports ecosystem in Turkey, including professional sports, investments, and sub-sectors, has reached a magnitude of billions of liras.

The results of the Turkey Sports Economy and Sector Report, prepared in partnership with Deloitte Turkey and the Turkish National Olympic Committee, have been announced.

Total Size of the Sports Ecosystem

Annual expenditures for professional and amateur sports reached approximately 81 billion liras, while investments by central and local governments reached approximately 100 billion liras.

Thus, the total ecosystem spending volume was recorded at approximately 181 billion liras, with public investments forming the backbone of the infrastructure.

Club Economy by Branch

The football branch constituted approximately 75 percent of the 54.2 billion lira professional club and athlete economy calculated for the past year.

Direct fan expenditures, match tickets, season tickets, VIP revenues, and merchandising activities reached a magnitude of approximately 18.5 billion liras.

Volleyball and Basketball Economy

While the professional volleyball economy reached a magnitude of approximately 4.6 billion liras, women's leagues accounted for about 60 percent of this volume.

The share of the Sultans League within the volleyball economy stood at approximately 45 percent, and the basketball economy reached approximately 7.3 billion liras.

Amateur Sports and School Activities

While the economic size of the amateur sports ecosystem is at the level of approximately 10 billion liras, these areas support the spread of sports to the grassroots.

The total number of students participating in school sports reached approximately 1.3 million.

Sports Tourism and Strategic Impact

Sports tourism in Turkey rose to the level of approximately 45 to 55 billion liras, with about 50 to 60 percent of the revenues generated from international visitors.

Deloitte Turkey and TMOK executives emphasized that sports has become a strategic impact area generating economic value.
