Health System Collapses in Gaza: More Than Seventeen Hundred Healthcare Workers Lost Their Lives in Three Years
As the Israeli attacks enter their third year and the health system in Gaza collapses, more than 1,700 healthcare workers, including specialist doctors and nurses, have lost their lives.
As three years have passed since Israel's attacks on the Gaza Strip, the healthcare infrastructure in the region has completely collapsed due to the closure of dozens of hospitals and the targeting of thousands of health personnel.
Collapse of the Healthcare System
While Israel's attacks on the Gaza Strip have left three years behind, the healthcare system in the region has completely collapsed due to the closure of hospitals, and the killing and detention of healthcare workers.
According to data from the Government Media Office, 197 ambulances were hit, 38 hospitals and 96 health centers were rendered out of service, and critically important medicine warehouses were destroyed during the process.
Personnel Who Lost Their Lives
According to data from the Palestinian Ministry of Health, more than 1,700 healthcare workers, including doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and emergency medical technicians, have lost their lives in Israeli attacks.
While this figure includes health workers killed since the beginning of 2026, the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics reported that three doctors have lost their lives in prisons since the beginning of the attacks.
Targeted Specialist Physicians
Many specialist doctors and administrators of critical importance to Gaza's healthcare infrastructure have lost their lives in the attacks.
Prominent figures such as Adnan al-Bursh, Mohammed Nimr Kazat, Iyad al-Rantisi, Omar Farwana, Rafet Lebbed, Hamdi al-Najjar, and Marwan al-Sultan lost their lives in attacks or detention centers.
Detained Healthcare Workers
Among the healthcare workers detained by the Israeli army, Kamal Adwan Hospital Director Husam Abu Safiya and Abu Youssef al-Najjar Hospital Director Marwan al-Hams stand out.
Human rights organizations and reports reveal that detained health personnel have been subjected to severe torture, medical neglect, and poor detention conditions.
General Casualties and Balance Sheet
While human rights violations and the humanitarian crisis continue to deepen, the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza shared up-to-date data regarding overall casualties in the region.
According to the statements made, the number of those who lost their lives in Israeli attacks rose to 74,250, and the number of injured rose to 175,278.
