Queen Sonja and Crown Prince Haakon, who temporarily assumed his powers, are at the side of the king, who is receiving treatment at Oslo University Hospital due to a blood disease.

Official Schedules Canceled

Following these developments, the Palace announced to the public that Queen Sonja and Crown Prince Haakon have canceled all their official schedules.

Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store, who canceled his planned visit to Germany, expressed his sorrow over the critical health condition of the king.

Treatments Continued at the Hospital

Harald, who holds the position of Europe's oldest reigning monarch, has been receiving treatment in the hospital diagnosed with hemolytic anemia since August 17.

This disease causes problems such as severe fatigue and shortness of breath as a result of the rapid destruction of red blood cells.

The palace administration had previously stated that the king was hospitalized due to fluid accumulation related to cortisone treatment and was receiving antibiotics for a bacterial infection.

Past Health Issues

King Harald, who ascended the throne in 1991, has struggled with many different health problems in recent years, including the installation of a pacemaker.

Having had to reduce his official duties due to illnesses, the king firmly refuses to abdicate the throne due to his lifelong oath of service to parliament.
