Message on Combating Addiction from Health Minister Memişoğlu
Evaluating efforts to combat addiction during Public Health Week, Health Minister Memişoğlu provided information on ongoing services and supports.
Health Minister Kemal Memişoğlu stated in his remarks for Public Health Week that efforts continue uninterrupted with the goal of a society free from addiction for a healthy life. Activities carried out through ministry-wide outpatient clinics, counseling lines, and medication supports were shared with the public.
Smoking Cessation Outpatient Clinics and Counseling Services
It was reported that counseling services were provided to a total of 376,158 people across 1678 Smoking Cessation Outpatient Clinics operating nationwide. Furthermore, it was stated that online outpatient services are offered through the Central Physician Appointment System across 383 centers in 81 provinces.
Tobacco Control Teams and Free Medication Support
It was announced that Tobacco Control Teams provided on-site counseling services in 920 public institutions, informing 23,115 public personnel. Additionally, free medication support was provided to more than 1.5 million citizens wishing to quit tobacco use.
Support Provided Through Counseling Lines
Through the ALO 171 Smoking Cessation Counseling Line, which operates twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, follow-up and motivational support was provided to 628,378 citizens. Besides this, 81,398 calls were answered and 47,338 motivational calls were conducted via the ALO 191 Drug Abuse Counseling and Support Line.
Public Health Week and Behavioral Addictions
The theme for the fourth day of Public Health Week was designated as "Notice Before You Lose." It was pointed out that, alongside tobacco and tobacco products, the uncontrolled use of behaviors such as the internet and gaming negatively affects daily life.
Psychosocial Support and Healthy Life Centers
Counseling and guidance services regarding behavioral addiction risks, primarily internet and gaming, continue to be offered by the Psychosocial Support Units of Healthy Life Centers.
